Box for Office: How to Open and Save files to Box

Opening a File

To open a file from your Box account into an Office application, first choose the 'Add-Ins' option from the menu bar to show the Box plugin toolbar, then choose the yellow folder icon to the right of the Box logo. Choose a file appropriate to the Office application you are using from your file tree and choose 'Open'.

 

Saving a File

To save a document from an Office application to Box first choose the 'Add-Ins' option from the menu bar to show the Box.net plugin toolbar, then choose the floppy disk icon to the right of the Box logo. If you have chosen a default location for files to be uploaded to, then the file will immediately begin uploading and you will receive a confirmation when it has finished.

If you do not have a default location specified, you will be see the file tree associated to your Box account and you may choose a location to save the file. If you opened a file from Box or are editing a document you downloaded from Box, saving the file back to the same folder will prompt Box to update the original file, and store the older copy in the 'Version History" (also see: Version History).
