Collecting Box Edit Logs

Get Training

When you submit a support request to Box, you may be asked to submit a set of Box Edit logs from your computer. You can collect the logs from the location below, zip them up and send them to Box. If the logs are too large to attach, please upload them to Box and provide us with an open shared link to that file.

Macintosh HD/Users/[username]/Library/Logs/Box/Box Edit

Note: You can navigate to the "Library" directory by entering the path "~/Library" into the "Go to Folder..." field.

On Windows computers, you can now access your logs by right-clicking the Box Edit icon in the status bar:

Please see the table below for a description of each option:

Open Box Edit Logs Folder Opens the folder where your Box Edit logs are stored.
Open Box Local Com Server Logs Folder The Box Local Com Server is a separate component of Box that facilitates communication between the Box webapp and the Box Edit application. It has its own set of logs, stored in a different folder.
Save All Logs To A File Saves all local logs (Both Box Edit Logs and Box Local Com Server Logs) into a single zip file. By default, the file will be saved to the desktop.
Enable Debug Logging Toggles debug logging on or off. Turning on debug logging will create more detailed log messages, but may impact performance. If you run into a problem while using Box Edit, support staff may ask you to enable debug logging and reproduce the issue before sending them the logs so that they can have all the information they need.
To find the logs manually, follow this file path:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Box\Box Edit\Logs

When sending logs to Box support, include any logs you find in this folder as well:

Note: You can navigate directly to the AppData\Local directory by entering the path: %LocalAppData% into the Windows search field.
