    Hi Derik,

Welcome to the Box Product Support.

Yes, you can edit Excel files that are password-protected via Box Edit, however you won't be able to preview them in Box.

When you open a password protected excel file using your desktop excel app, box edit application pops up and prompts for a password. Once the password is entered the excel document pops right up.

You can learn more about Box Edit on these help articles:

Thank you for posting and let us know how else we can help!

Hi France, thanks for your reply.

I understand that I could use Box Tools to do so, however, is there still a way to open the encrypted Excel file with any MS Excel installed in the device? Possible for Excel Online to prompt for password entry?

    Derik,

In my experience, you need to use the installed Excel program; Excel Online won't work with password protected files.
