Unfortunately, uninstalling and reinstalling dows not solve the issue. Extension still fails to load.

Upgraded to 11.4 and extension fails to load on Intel Macbook Pro. Re-installing box does nothing to resolve it.

I had the same issue, I was able to resolve by following these steps:

    1. Quit Box Drive
    2. Run the uninstaller script (dumping Box in trash will not work, need to use script below):
      • Launch Terminal.
      • Copy and paste the following in Terminal window and press Enter (password will be required to execute):
        /Library/Application\ Support/Box/uninstall_box_drive
    3. Restart your mac
    4. Reinstall Box drive

    Hope this helps someone!

I've really been disappointed with BOX Drive over the last ~16 months.  It seems BOX has been caught flat-footed in their response to both Big Sur and in particular Apple Silicon/M1.

Whatever the issue is with 11.4 also exists in 11.5 Beta (20G5023d).

This has been an issue for many months on Intel as well as M1 machines, with zero action from BOX. Their website doesn't even acknowledge Big Sur's existence. I'm moving backup to another platform as this is too important to leave with BOX.

Same exact thing as everyone above. Intel based iMac and System extension failed to load, regardless of the proper security preferences being set, reinstalling the software, etc... I mean, come on, Apple uses Box... It's time to fix it!

Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't work for me, either.

    Same issue here.

Is there a progress update to fix this blunder/bug?

Its been many days now and the web interface is a poor alternative...

Same issue on my MacBook Pro 2016 with macOS 11.4. I tried uninstalling, restarting, reinstalling. I even tried using a 3rd party patch for M1 Macs.

Box clearly isn't resolving the issue anytime soon, as this is a major release that has been out for months. I am done using Box on my Mac

I had this issue before. It didn't get fixed. I had to get a new computer (MacBook Pro Intel) and suddenly, after transferring everything, box drive worked.

Today, it updated to Big Sur 11.4 and Box drive doesn't work anymore.

THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. WHAT ARE YOUR TEAM DOING FOR OVER A YEAR????

Uninstalling and installing again doesn't work.

Opening a ticket didn't work last time either. I got a reply after months and it didn't fix the issue...

    Shameful.

Big Sur 11.5:  Same "system extension failed to load" problem as when my Intel MBP16 updated to 11.4!

I had to follow the instructions to uninstall, reboot, and reinstall to get Box Drive working again.  I previously had to do this when my Intel MacBook Pro 16 upgraded to 11.4, and now I had to do it again when it upgraded to 11.5.

Box:  Please find a way to fix this, so we don't get the "system extension failed to load" problem every time Big Sur updates.

Technical observation for Box engineers:  The uninstall script tries to rm Library/Cookies/com.box.desktop.binarycookies, but something (presumably Mac's system integrity protection) prevents terminal from accessing a user's Library/Cookies folder.  I manually removed the file using Finder after running the uninstall script.

Same issue.  I uninstalled (using cmd line execution mentioned above + deleted the Library/Cookies/com.box.desktop.binarycookies via Finder as mentioned > Rebooted and Reinstalled from latest Box.pkg download.  Still getting the "Box Drive's system extension failed to load..." notification when it tries to start.

Box Support, please advise what we should do asap.

Same problem with Big Sur 11.5.2 and it's ridiculous, seeing how many previous versions have been affected.

Has anyone managed to find a workaround? I can't even try with uninstalling through terminal as the application will not install at all. It doesn't even show up in AppCleaner.

    Hi France,

Thanks, I did some additional digging after my comment and, although I'm not using M1 chip Mac, I found in the article that this beta also supports Intel Macs:

"Devices supported - Apple M1 and Intel-based Mac devices"

This was a crucial piece of information which, in my humble opinion, should've been included in the announcement appearing at the bottom of the support site.

After few installs and uninstalls, the problem somehow got fixed, even without a restart of the computer.

Uninstalling and reinstalling works for me! You need to follow the instructions and use terminal command to fully uninstall Box before reinstalling.
