    Welcome to the Box Community, I'm happy to help!

    If you lost a file from a shared folder that is owned by someone else, I recommend reaching out to the owner of the Shared folder to check his Box Trash and see if he can find and recover the missing file. If this file was deleted by another user in that shared folder, the file will appear on the Box Trash of "Owner" and "deleter" of that file, so only these 2 will be able to recover it from there.

    Thank you for the prompt response. Regarding owner, the file is deleted, so it is hard to recollect or check who the owner is. It was created few years back and has wealth of information.

    Hi Nirmala, 

    You've mentioned above that the file is in a Shared folder, do you still have access to this folder?

    The owner of that folder would also be the person who owns any files that is stored in there including your missing file, so I would suggest that you contact the owner of the Shared folder to help you on this.

    Yes, I have access to this folder.

    I do not see the owner name. I see a role which shows CAO as the owner. I do not know who the person is.

    Hi Nirmala, 

    On the Shared folder, please open More Options > More Actions and select Manage Collaborators.

    You will see something like this below which should list the details of people collaborating in that folder as well there email address, you should be able to find the owner's email address on this page:

    I see CAO as the owner. Not a person. 

     

    Side note:  I see a bunch of co-owners and contacted one of them to see if they can see my deleted file in the trash, no luck.
