When you have done your testing and are satisfied with the application, you can publish it to our Box App Center which allows customers to discover your application and add it to their Box accounts. Note that due to the authentication type differences in the user experience, only applications with the User Authentication (OAuth 2.0) authentication type have a built in option to publish them.
Since other application types have admin-focused authorization steps, we will often defer to our partners to provide the admins instructions on how to get set up on the application. You are still able to create another application with the User Authentication type that will serve purely as a marketing listing in our App Center and direct customers to your website. If you didn't specify any webhooks or services in the application definition, just set the site_url. Then users who click the Add button will be redirected to that URL.
Creating Your Listing
To start the process, confirm you are in the application you would like to publish in the developer console. Then, look for a tab called “App Center” which served as the hub for all marketing information. In the tab click, “Submit my App” — note that it doesn’t actually kick off the submission process, but provides you access to the marketing section of the application.
Add Your App Information
In the “General App Info” section, choose the Categories and Platforms that best matches your application. This will help with the discoverability of the application in our App Center as customers are able to sort by the specific categories when browsing.
The “App Description” section allows you to add information about your application that our customers can see. Additionally, the “Short Description” will appear alongside your application name and logo when browsing the App Center and the “Long Description” is what the end user will be able to see after clicking into your application. Note that the “Long Description” supports styling such as adding clickable links directly into your description if you would like to link the user our to your website. To utilize links, the format is, [url text] in the description — for instance, [https://www.example.com Click to Learn More] will show up as a clickable “Click to Learn More” link leading to example.
For the screenshots and logo components there is guidance provided in the console and both the logo and screenshots will be viewable by users in our app center when clicking into your application. Note that we do resize the screenshots, so to prevent any stretching of images, make sure that your screenshots match the resolution ratio provided in the console.
Publishing Your Application
Once these steps are completed, you can go ahead and click, “Submit for Approval” to let us know that the application is ready for publishing. We’ll review your listing and publish it into our App Center for customers to discover.
