We have released a new, modernized File Request experience - with an intuitive drag-and-drop builder.
It offers all the existing capabilities in our current File Request offering including fields incl. metadata, upload zones and custom branding. It's backward-compatible with existing File Request links and admin-configured settings.
For more information, please see Using File Request to get Content from Anyone
What Box Admins need to know about the upcoming release
The new File Request builder rolled out in mid-April 2023 and should not have caused any disruption to your Box instance or your users. Any user editing an existing File Request link or creating a new one was/will be shown the new builder experience. Please update any internal training or documentation as needed. Box Admins can use the File Request dashboard to get a summary of all File Request links created by users in their organization.

We have enhanced dynamic naming support in Relay to add the ability to use trigger folder as a variable for file/folder naming in workflow outcomes. This is a follow-up to what we released Late last year - the ability to dynamically name files/folders at runtime in Box Relay workflows.
Created Jan 27, 2023Feature
We have extended dynamic naming support in Relay to leverage variables in all metadata templates. This capability is available on Enterprise plans and above. This is a follow-up to what we released Late last year - the ability to dynamically name files/folders at runtime in Box Relay workflows - including the use of File Request metadata.
Workflow creators are now able to use fields from metadata templates to rename files and folders - including combining metadata fields with free-form text including prepending, appending or inline. All metadata field types (text, number, date, single and multi-select dropdown) can be used for naming files and folders. For more information, see:

Created Nov 28, 2022Feature
We have released the ability to name files/folders based on variables that may change per workflow instance. Users can combine variable names with free-form text including prepending, appending or inline.
Supported variables will include the
Name of the file/ folder being executed on in the workflow
Name of the trigger file/folder
Trigger Date
Execution Date
File Request metadata (for Relay workflows using the File Request trigger) - For Enterprise plans and above
This enables workflow creators to contextually name files/folders. For example:
Making the current date part of the folder name (useful for timestamping)
Using a folder name (e.g. name of a client) referenced in a previous step of the workflow as part of new name of a file
Extract a metadata field (E.g. vendor name) from a File Request and use as part of the file name

We enhanced the recently-released Relay-Sign integration and added the ability to move the signing log and executed document in lockstep for Relay workflows employing the 'Sign event' trigger.
This ensures file-specific Relay outcomes such as file/metadata/task actions apply to one or both files (as configured), supporting automated archival workflows for signed documents.
This feature is available on Business and above plans.

We have added informational labels in the Relay workflow builder that show any active Shield classifications that apply to files or folders identified in workflow.
Once the user picks the file/folder, they see the label informing them of Shield-related attributes with additional details available via a modal.
This enables the workflow designer to build workflows that are cognizant of file and folder classifications. This feature is available on Enterprise and above plans, and requires Box Shield as a pre-requisite.

Understanding Triggers and Outcomes in Relay
Updated Sep 29, 2022
Created Jun 3, 2022Update
Previously, Box customers were able to apply metadata templates and update metadata values automatically on files, as part of Relay outcome. However, they were not able to do the same for folders, which limited their ability to leverage metadata for enhancing their search, information management and business process automation.
We have now released the ability to add metadata templates and update metadata on folders automatically in Relay outcomes. This enables customers to apply metadata at scale automatically or as part of automating their business process, and not have to do it a a separate step outside the workflow.
A new ‘Folder Action’ option is now available in the ‘Metadata’ outcome in the Relay builder. For more information, see the "Metadata outcome options' section of this article - Understanding Triggers and Outcomes in Relay
Note: This capability is available as in Enterprise and above plans - as part of the 'Metadata events and actions' feature.

We have released an integration between Box Relay and Box Sign. This will enable users to automate steps that need to be taken following a transaction in Box Sign.
Feature include:
New ‘Sign event’ trigger in Relay based on completed / cancelled / expired / declined document status in Box Sign
Select one or many file / folder / task / metadata / notification outcomes in Relay to build downstream workflow
Here are some examples of downstream actions you can automate with this capability:
Apply metadata templates to easily organize, search and manage signed customer contracts
Classify signed documents so they are protected by the corresponding Box Shield policies
Assign a task to the partner manager when a signature request on a renewal application expires due to inaction on the vendor’s part
Notify the recruiting team when a candidate declines to sign the offer letter
Apply a watermark to M&A agreements to deter unauthorized re-sharing of sensitive information
For more information, see the 'Signing Event' section of Understanding Triggers and Outcomes in Relay
