How can I copy to my local box.net account, files from an expiring link?

    Hi Bryce,

    Welcome to the Box Community!

If you are accessing files via Shared link, owners can enable or disable the "Download" option for that link which would allow people they share the link to to download the content.

Can you check if the link shared to you have a download option? If you are not seeing it, it must have been disabled by the owner of the file to restrict others from downloading them.

I would suggest contacting the person who shared the link to you to see if they can enable and allow downloading the files, and then once they have, you simply need to download them, and then manually upload into your Box.

Thanks for your participation in the forum and let us know how else we can help!

The files in question have a download link.

I have downloaded the files, then re-uploaded them to my personal box.
This seems like a crude solution, akin to copying illuminated manuscripts by hand by candlelight using a team of monks.

It also seems inefficient for box, which could save on backend storage costs by storing the files once over multiple accounts, removing the file only after the last reference to it becomes stale.
