synched folders not synching (though it counts unsynced files)

I've got a synched folder that has six sub-folders in it. three of them only have half the files they're supposed to have. i've turned synch on and off, I've killed it from the activity monitor, all of which do nothing. if i LOG OUT of box, then log back in, it scans the folders, finds 3000 unsynched files, calculates a time for synching them, then immediately reports that the main folder is synced. despite those 3,000 files never being copied..... thoughts?
