Cannot create new user with same email as deleted user

Dear community,

we had to delete a user in our instance that now needs to be recreated with the same email address as before. When we try doing this, it says the user is already part of the organization.

Is there another way of retrieving formerly deleted users or hard deleting them so the email frees up again?
