When I add files to my box.com account, my "space used" counter at the bottom left of the screen goes up, but when I delete files from my box.com account, the "space used" counter DOES NOT go back ...

My box.com account is empty, yet box.com is claiming that I am using 5.9GB of storage. Why are you doing this, & why is it so hard to contact you to get this fixed? Are you being deliberately poor ...
