When trying to retrieve the local path of a file or folder stored on Box using functions in Microsoft Office, the returned path is in the following format:

https://api.box.com/wopi/files/[file_id]/WOPIServiceId_TP_BOX_2/WOPIUserId_-/[filename]sheet name

How can I obtain the actual local path?

Root Cause

When the Box for Microsoft Office Co-authoring is enabled, links to files or folders stored on Box are retrieved via WOPI. As a result, the links are automatically converted to the format shown above.

Resolution

If you need to reference the local path used for Box Drive, disable the Box for Microsoft Office Co-authoring feature. To disable co-authoring, remove Box from your Office account settings.
