Box for Agentforce includes a packaged Box User Agent template that enables Agentforce to securely interact with content stored in Box.
The template comes preconfigured with Box topics that allow your agent to answer questions about documents, extract structured information, generate new content, create documents from templates, manage sharing and collaboration, and work with Box Sign.
Because these topics are included with the template, administrators can quickly create a Box-powered Agentforce agent without manually configuring individual actions.
Setting up Box User Agent
Before using the Box User Agent, ensure that:
- Box for Agentforce has been installed and configured.
- Agentforce is enabled in your Salesforce organization.
- Box AI features are available in your Box enterprise if you intend to use AI-powered topics.
Box User Agent (Box_User_Agent_v1_Template) is an Agentforce (Employee) agent that manages Box files, folders, and permissions, and uses Box AI to summarize, extract insights, and answer content questions — with the Box topics/actions pre-attached.
Using Box User Agent in the Agentforce Legacy Agent Builder
Salesforce currently requires packaged agent templates to be instantiated using the legacy Agent Builder experience.
Although Salesforce removed the New Agent button from the legacy interface, the creation wizard remains available through a direct URL.
- Navigate to your Salesforce Lightning domain.
- Append the following path: /AiCopilot/copilotStudio.app#/copilot/wizard?mode=newAgent
- Select Box User Agent.
- Complete the agent creation process.
Alternatively, copy the template's agent metadata, edit, and deploy as a new agent.
Salesforce allows Salesforce admins to promote Agents to the new agent builder instantly after building it in the old builder.
Not yet possible: instantiating a packaged template from the new builder. Salesforce has acknowledged the gap for ISV templates. We'll update when the new builder supports packaged templates.
Included Box Agent Topics
The Box User Agent includes several preconfigured topics.
Box AI
Provides core Box AI capabilities for individual Box files.
Users can:
- Ask natural-language questions about a document.
- Generate text based on document contents.
- Extract structured fields.
- Extract metadata using Box metadata templates.
When an action requires a document, the agent prompts the user to select a Box file.
Box Content Q&A and Summarization
Helps users quickly understand documents without opening them.
The topic supports:
- Document summarization
- Natural-language questions
- Locating documents within folders
Because Box AI operates on individual files rather than folders, requests about folders first present available files so users can select the document they want to analyze.
Box Data Extraction
Extracts structured information from documents and returns it as key-value pairs.
The topic supports common business documents including:
- Contracts
- Invoices
- Receipts
- Forms
Extraction can be performed using either explicitly defined fields or Box metadata templates.
Box Document Generation and Box Sign
Creates documents from Box Doc Gen templates using Salesforce record data.
Using this agent topic, users can:
- Generate documents from approved templates.
- Confirm signer information.
- Send generated documents for signature using Box Sign.
- Track document generation status.
Box Content Sharing and Collaboration
Allows users to securely share Box content directly from Agentforce.
Supported capabilities include:
- Adding collaborators
- Assigning collaboration roles
- Creating shared links
- Preventing duplicate collaborator invitations
The topic supports the full set of Box collaboration roles available through Box.
Using Box User Agent
Once deployed, users interact with the Box User Agent like any other Agentforce agent.
Depending on the request, the agent may:
- Locate relevant Box files
- Ask the user to select a document
- Analyze document contents using Box AI
- Generate summaries
- Extract structured business information
- Create documents
- Initiate Box Sign signature requests
- Manage sharing and collaboration
The agent guides users through any required inputs before executing an action.
