What is the format of PDF file to be uploaded to BOX through API?

Could anyone please mention in which format I can upload the PDF file to Box through API? I have tried base 64 formats, But I couldn't preview my file. 

Can someone help me? Thanks in advance.

Note: I was able to create a text file through API.
