Box thumbnail API possibility of incomplete binary data

Is it possible that the box file thumbnail API -

https://api.box.com/2.0/files/:file_id/thumbnail.:extension 

can return incomplete binary data in the response? If so, is there a way to check for this - possibly something like a checksum for the uploaded file data?
