403 unauthorized when calling for recent items - box node sdk

When I make a call for recent items, I get response code 403. See details in the screenshot.

Other calls in the same session through the SDK work just fine so I know it's not a credentials issue. And I'm not seeing anything in the documentation that would point to a specific set of permissions to be able to run this call.

still looking for an answer. Same question was asked a few years ago but with the .NET SDK. Also no answers on that one:
