Permission Status Affecting PDFs

A weird thing that has been brought to my attention is that permission status seems to be affecting the search functions on PDFs downloaded from Box. 

For example, someone with Viewer permission recently reached out to me, as Co-Owner of a folder, to ask me why the PDF they downloaded no longer allows word search on it. Curious, I downloaded the exact same document. I was able to use word search just fine on those PDFs I downloaded, but I had a Co-Owner permission. 

To test out the issue further, I had a fellow Co-Owner change my status to Viewer. Not only was I unable to download the PDFs but I couldn't perform word search function on the PDFs either. When the fellow Co-Owner changed my status from Viewer to Editor, it enabled the word search function again on the PDFs I downloaded. 

Has anyone encountered this kind of issue? Is Box re-writing PDF word search capabilities based on the permissions given?
