Nov 26, 2023 Update - Min version of Box Drive that supports external browser login is v2.35    We've updated the login experience for Box Drive. This update uses the default browser on the device to complete the login experience. If a user is running Box Drive v2.35 or higher, they will be directed to the browser when they click on login in Box Drive. This upgrade provides a smooth single sign on user experience and enables support for newer security protocols when those are supported by the Box login / SSO providers. We recommend all customers who have Box Drive and Device Trust enabled, review the requirements (below) and take the required steps to avoid any service disruption to users. Specifically, if you have Device Trust checks enabled for the Box Drive end point, (see toggle on in image below), Box Tools must also be installed. If the user already has Box Tools installed, no additional updates are required. If the user does not have Box Tools installed, you will need to install the latest Box Tools per the requirements below.   Enhancement Our primary goal with this release is to ensure that we are continuing to provide the most seamless and secure login experience for customers and users. By switching Box Drive to a browser for login, we leverage both support for Box login and SSO providers on the web browser and can automatically support the latest security enhancements, such as, FIDO2 protocols or hardware tokens. System requirements for this update [Action may be required] To avoid any service disruption for your users, please take the following actions prior to the mid-August notice of automatic upgrade of Box Drive:   For Device Trust enabled organizations, for users who do not have Box Tools already installed, Box Tools v4.22 or later is required. Specifically, if you have Device Trust checks enabled for the Box Drive end point, (see toggle on image above), you will need to install the latest Box Tools per the requirements below. For org-wide install by admin, please see https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043695834-Large-Scale-Deployments-Box-Tools For manual install by users, please see https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043697334-Installing-Box-Tools To complete login, your Box Drive users will require Box Tools to perform the Device Trust checks. If the user does not have Box Tools, when logging in, the Device Trust check will fail and inform the user that they will need Box Tools to complete login. Box Drive v2.35. Please find the latest installer here if you require an update. Both Windows and Mac are supported. We released a new version of Box Drive (v2.32), on Windows and Mac, that includes feature enhancements and bug fixes: Native support for Apple Silicon on macOS: Box Drive runs faster and more seamlessly on Mac machines with native support for Apple Silicon processors. Right click context menu to "View on Box.com" and "Copy Shared Link" in Windows Search - Windows users can preview the file/folder on Box.com and copy a shared link when they right click on a search result in the Box Search UI Improved reliability for syncing changes from local device to Box - Workaround for a macOS 13 system bug that under some circumstances keeps Box Drive from syncing changes from the local machine to the cloud. The underlying OS bug is fixed in macOS 13.3. Required  minimum version of .NET Framework - To support native execution on Apple Silicon and to update the included libraries, this release includes an upgraded version of Python. The updated Python version requires .NET Framework 4.7.2 or higher to run. Hence, users who are on .NET Framework versions lower than 4.7.2 will not be updated to this version of Box Drive. Box Drive will continue to function for these users, however they will not be supported per our Desktop support policy. Once the user updates .NET Framework to v4.7.2 or higher, they will receive this Box Drive update automatically.

We released a new version of Box Drive (v2.31), on Windows and Mac, that includes feature enhancements and bug fixes:  [macOS in File Provider Extension mode] User prompt when dragging content in or out of Box Drive - When a user drags a file/folder in or out of Box Drive, they are presented with a dialog asking them to confirm the action. Note that when running Box Drive in FPE mode, when a user drags items (files or folders) out of the Box folder this action moves the item to the destination location and thereby removes the item for the user and all collaborators on Box. Similarly, items dragged from the user’s local drive to the Box folder are also moved instead of copied. This prompt ensures that users are aware of this behavior and perform their intended action.
