why is there a red dot next to a folder that I worked with on home PC

Welcome to the Box Community!
Are you using Box Drive and seeing red dot with exclamation point in it just like this image below:
If yes, then what you are seeing is a problem item. Box Drive uses these icons to identify if there are any issues saving your changes to Box and you should see a notification for this when you go to Box Drive on your menu bar/ system tray.
