Unable to use the @mention function in open documents

When I enter the @ symbol in an open document, users do not populate. I am able to use the function in comments in the Activity window when viewing documents that are not open, but when I open the document, the @mention function no longer works. Can someone help me resolve this issue?

    Also, people are not able to @mention me, either.
