Deleting files does not change my available space

I deleted a large number of files and my available space has not updated.  I also deleted the files from my trash, but no space was freed up.  In addition, there are two files in my trash can that I deleted months ago that haven't been removed.  I see from similar posts that Support intervention is required with my account to address this issue.
