Get File URL when dragging file from Box drive to 3rd party application
When dragging a file from BOX drive into a 3rd party application that references that file location it's using the local .\Users\<username>\Box\ for that file. Since the link path is specific to the user, why couldn't the link use the web URL path instead? This would save the path as the correct path so that other users (who have access in BOX) to reference the link and retrieve the file.
I understand that the link could be accessed by selecting and dragging the URL from the browser, but doing this from Box Drive would also be good since many users perfer the windows explorer look and feel when accessing the files.

Hi Pete,
Welcome to the Box Community!
Have you checked out this support article on Configuring the Default Box Drive Folder Location? We are enhancing support for linked files with the ability to choose where the Box Drive folder lives on your users' desktops. With this enhancement, you'll be able to choose a general location for Box Drive that's outside of the user space, so anyone who wants to access the file with the links can do so seamlessly. When you link files in Box Drive, the folder path a program (such as Excel or PowerPoint) stores will be consistent for all of your users. This may be relevant to your problem with the next steps! If this did not help, do you mind providing more information or even share a screenshot? This will help out other members of the community to answer your question.Best,
