Granting access to reference data stored in Box without making API calls

We have a knowledge base search. On top of the search bar, I have included a top 5 most viewed KB articles from last week. That data is stored in Box. The problem is I cannot reference a raw file in Box. Is there a way to do this without making API calls (this would be messy and make scaling impossible due to the rate limits, we have thousands of users that use the search client). For example, on my gist, you can see the raw file and path to it in a script or reference in HTML. I need this in Box. Is there a way to grant access to a shared link. I can possibly see a way of using API calls to make this work, but again that's messy and limited.
