Box Sync finding hundred of files to sync, but only changed a handful

When I open my MacBook, Box Sync automatically starts syncing files, but it is finding 600 files that need syncing, when I might have changed a handful on a different computer since last opening this laptop. It takes up to an hour before I can use the file I want to access (a Scrivener project), because it is syncing all the other stuff (which I have no idea what they are, as they do not appear in the Finder with any of the Syncing icons).

Is this an issue specifically with the compatibility of the Scrivener file format?
