Error when copying google files

Folder 1 contains subfolder 1 with 5 google docs and 3 sheets. I am an editor of this folder. 

When a copy of subfolder 1 is created, the google materials are not accessible but can be viewed within the box viewer. The document opens to the following error message: "Google Docs encountered an error. Please try reloading this page, or coming back to it in a few minutes."

Folder 2, everything equal, except I am an owner of this folder. When the copying procedure is conducted, the google materials are accessible. 

Is the issue folder ownership?
