We released a new update on Box Tools Windows (v4.5.4) that will deliver new stability improvements.
This release will include the following important stability improvements:
- Some users were running into situations were Box Tools would get installed twice, which would result in a variety of issues. The most common scenario for this to happen is if a user had installed Box Tools themselves (using the user-level installer), then later their admin deploys an enterprise-wide installer to all users. We've now resolved this issue by preventing double-installs from occurring. In scenarios where machine-wide installers are getting deployed to machines that already have per-user or machine-wide installers already deployed, we will uninstall the old build and install the new machine-wide installer. After the machine-wide installer is deployed, we also don't need the user to re-login like they did previously. Thus, issues should be minimized by limiting double-installs, enterprises can more easily standardize on a single version of the product, and users will have a better experience when they upgrade.
- Some users were receiving prompts to download Box Tools even though it was already installed when they attempted to edit a file from the web application. We've made an optimization in the product that should reduce the occurrence of these unexpected download prompts.
