Organizations will soon have the option to set the default collaboration invite permission to Viewer instead of Editor. The option for a more restrictive default permission will enable admins to encourage a more secure sharing and collaboration experience and help users think about the sensitivity of the content before giving collaborators Editor rights. In the admin console you will see the following:
If you make the change to a Viewer default vs. and Editor default users will see the "Invite as Viewer" default and need to manually switch it to Editor when adding collaborators to files or folders.
