We’re happy to announce that over the next few months we’ll be adding new tools to the Box MCP Server.
Released (September 22)
- File upload: users must specify the destination folder. Uploads are limited to folders which are not externally shared to prevent data leaving enterprise boundaries.

- Create folder: AI Agents can create new folders using MCP Server.

- List Tasks: lists tasks assigned to an authorized user
- List Hubs: lists hubs available to the authorized user
- Get Hub Details: name, description
- Get Hub Items: lists items curated within a Hub)
- Get File Details: name, description, etc.)
- Get Folder Details: name, description, etc.)
Next toolsets (coming in the next few months)
- Hubs (mid November release): create, copy, update details and add item to a hub (subject to restrictions preventing external sharing)
- Files & folders (mid November release): update folder description and name, update file description and name
- Doc Gen (mid December release): List, retrieve and generate a document using a Doc Gen template (subject to restrictions preventing external sharing)
- Collaboration & comments (mid January release): list collaborations, add/list file comments
- AI Agents (date TBD): find available AI Agents
Rollout and availability
- New tools automatically appear and are ready to be used by users of enterprises with MCP Server enabled.
