Overview of Problem
When using Save As or Save a Copy in Microsoft Office for Mac with files stored in Box Drive, the save location behavior depends on how the destination is selected. If the file is saved using On My Mac or Browse save location, the Save dialog does not default to the folder where the original file is located and instead defaults to the last location used to save any file in that Office application. This behavior is confirmed by Microsoft as expected behavior and is not a defect in Box Drive.
Process for Resolution
- Open Finder and navigate to the Box Drive folder you use most frequently.
- Drag the folder to the Favorites section in the Finder sidebar (below the divider line on the left).
- The folder will now appear in the sidebar of all Save and Open dialogs across Office applications.
- Repeat this for any additional Box Drive folders your team accesses regularly.
Outcome
- The frequently used Box Drive folders will appear as one-click targets in any Save dialog.
- This significantly reduces the navigation required to save files in the correct location.
