LOST FILES AFTER UNSYNCING
AnsweredHELP -
Yesterday I was cleaning up my files and read that If I used unsync then files would remain in BOX online while I made adjustments to my hard drive. I did that and this morning I opened my desktop and browser to get some files and everything was gone, as well as my deskstop files.

Hi Thom,
Welcome to the Box Community! I'm happy to help.
It looks like you are moving files out of their Box Sync folder and onto your computer. This is causing Box to register this as a deletion. To demonstrate how this works, please follow these steps:
-
Create a test folder on Box.com in a folder that is synced to the user's desktop
-
In the Box Sync folder, move the test folder onto the desktop
-
The folder should now be deleted on Box.com
Users do not have to move any content out of Box Sync to have it available locally. They can open files directly from Box Sync, and create and delete content there as well.
If a change is made within Box Sync, that change will be made on Box, regardless of what is synced. If you are seeing a folder within your Box Sync, take a look at its sync settings on Box.com. Removing it from Box Sync, even if the files within it are not synced, will remove it and all of its contents.
Possible reason why a folder will be deleted through Box Sync:
-
If you drag your folder to a different folder location (outside Box sync folder).
-
uninstalling Box Sync while still logged in to Box Sync.
-
Computer reformat while connected to Box Sync.
-
Deleting folders from Box Sync while logged in to Box Sync will also delete the files in Box.com
Kindly check your storage count availablity by going to your Box console> Account Settings>Account> Account Details> Storage ( used/total).
Delete files to accomodate storage so that you'd be able to recover it and restore to your "All Files".
Hope this helps.
Best,
-
