I was trying to move files from one drive of my PC (one synced with BOX) to another local drive (unsynced), so I can change the structure of the folders  and then re-upload the files from the unsynced local drive to the synced local drive with the new folder structure.

Unfortunately something went horribly wrong with the move and I lost the files. I am on a free account and I would like to recover those lost files. Does Box keep a historical backup of those files, (before I moved them) and how can get them back?

    Welcome to Box Community and glad to help! 

    Note that we can only guarantee file recovery for those files that was deleted off of the Box website. 

    If so, please use these steps to recover your deleted files.

    The steps below apply whether you’re selecting from search results or from all Trash items.

    1. Hover to highlight the row of the item you want. The More Options ellipsis (…) displays.
    2. Click the ellipsis (...).  Then: 
    • To return the item to its original location in Box, click Restore.
    1. At the prompt, click Okay.
