if you have added a 2FA app or way to get the codes in some cases (it all depending on the service or site) when changing (even when thinking you edit) the 2FA it removes the old authenticator random codes in the app, and only the new one will work.

    exp:

you get the 2FA Authenticator app on a smartphone and later try to add the 2FA authenticator app, on a tablet if you not using the same QR code for both devices when setting up it will remove the last 2FA setup be removed from the account.

    end of exp:

and yes, I know this is a pain, so my suggest would, that when setting up the 2FA with a code via an authenticator app, that you use the same QR code for all devices and apps to use the Authenticator apps.

I know google and Microsoft have Authenticator apps, they're not the only ones, if going be using more than one app, make sure to use the same QR code for all the Authenticator apps.

and I maybe the code you enter changed by the time that the site checks the codes, I've had that a few times happened to me.

if you have any backup codes around, I try using one of them, just so you can get back in and make any changes if needed or to reset up 2FA for your device within the app, just to be sure you have it, and I personally believe that 2FA, is the way to go, for extra account protections even sometimes with the pain and headaches that come with it.

also, for myself, I'm going though all my accounts that have 2FA turned on, to get a backup codes and if the site will allow me setup and use a security keys, it up to the site on how many Security Keys that can be use, and there are USB-A and USB-C keys along with NFC/BT "Bluetooth" keys so can use them on or mobile devices, now just because enroll a security keys you will lose the option to login with a code from the Authenticators' apps, tho, you'll be give the default option (whichever that may be) but you can switch to a different option, that available for that account(s).

I am working on this because I'm planning on switching to a different phone/Device soon, and don't want to lose access to any of my accounts.

hope this info, will help you out!!!
