    Hi Mike,

    Welcome to the Box Community!

Changing the location of Box Drive into an external harddrive is currently not supported as stated in our support article here:

Box does not support customizing its folder location to:

    • External Drives
    • Network Drives
    • The Box Sync folder or anywhere within the Box Sync folder (serious errors may result)

Also, one of the important points to highlight in the article I shared is that customizing the Box Drive folder does not change where Box Drive stores its app data or cached files. The above article mainly discusses resolving issues around file-to-file linking via absolute paths as seen in many popular apps such as Excel, Word, InDesign, and so on. With this article, you are only moving the location of the Box Drive mount point. The cache and app data locations remain unchanged.

    Best,

That's really disappointing. I've been struggling with space on my computer, so I wanted to move the Box Sync folder to a larger hard drive, but seem it's "not supported".

    I agree with Richard.
I will have to move my files to the other blue"box" application that allows me to use an external hard drive.

I will say though, even the other blue"box" application will not allow a USB flash drive to be used as a file location. Even if it is intended to be permanently installed in the machine. However, that seems to be due to a physical / operational limitation of the USB Flash drive. So I guess I have to understand that.

But I have been using an external drive for both Box and blue"box" for years. in fact the Box files are syncing with this location currently!
Now I need to shift the file location (ironically to the C: Drive), and find this is not possible.

Again, I agree with Richard; disappointing.

Ah.. so that says I have to uninstall the Box client to save my C Drive which is already not enough.

We are also disappointed as my colleague does not want Box Drive on C as it takes up to much space.

Is there any way of moving it to the D drive?

For our small charity we need to have storage in 2 locations which Sync, ie Cloud and PC/Laptop/External drives.

Ditto.  I can't have Box storing files on my C: drive.  I have to have them on my D: drive.  This makes Box unusable for me.
