    Hi Blair,

    Welcome to the Box Community!

May I know what is your permission on the folder/file?

Description can be added to Folders or Files on the Box Web Application, as long as you have Editor access in the folder. 255 characters is the maximum character limit for the Description field.

For more details, please see our article on "Adding Descriptions to Folders and Files"

    Hope it helps!

Thanks for posting and let us know how else we can help!

I'm unfamiliar with editor access. How do I achieve that? When I click on the folder or file without opening it, I don't get this:

    Hi Blair,

The Folder owner may grant any collaborator with Editor permission and this is usually given to users who needs to make edits on files/ items in a folder.

You should see your collaborator permission under the "Sharing" tab just beside the "Details" tab as you see in this screenshot.

You can learn more about other collaborator permission levels in this article:

I AM the owner of the folder. It's MY Box account. I previously told you that I DON'T SEE what's on the screen shot when clicking on the folder or file. MY goodness - why is it so difficult for me to add a description to my own uploads???
