Linking a cell in another Excel file
is it possible to link a cell in one Excel file to another Excel file so that the linked cells automatically update on change in the first Excel file stored on Box

You may try Configuring Box Drive Folder Location to where file-to-file linking via absolute paths as seen in many popular apps such as Excel, Word, InDesign, and so on. Relative file path links should work regardless of the Box Drive folder location.
