Exchanging files between free app user and paid app user
I setup a free Box account in order to share with files securely with a vendor who has a paid account with Box. The vendor indicated that in order to do that, they need to go through their Box license at the cost (paid to them) of $35 a month. Is that correct? If they have user seats/licenses already, those same users cannot exchange files with the Box accounts setup by others unless the others are also paid subscribers?

Hi Susan,
Welcome to the Box Community! I'm happy to help.
"'Managed User(s)' means a person who is permitted to access, store, retrieve or manage Content, and is associated with a Customer Domain" whereas “'External User(s)' means a person who is permitted to access, store, retrieve or manage Content with a Managed User of the Customer, and is not in a Customer Domain."
If adding additional seats is not an option, you can use shared links to allow employees to view and download content that you send them. People do not need to have a Box account to receive/view/download the content within the link.
If these employees need to edit the content too, they can download it, edit it, and send it as an email attachment to the appropriate folder within your Box account so the rest of the team with Box accounts has those changes and can continue to collaborate.Hope this is clear enough.
Best,
