Invited collaborator receiving "invalid login credentials" message

I sent invite to collaborate on a file folder. Tried using an invite as well as a shared link. End user receiving a ""invalid login credentials" message and unable to login. User has an existing account and said this has been an issue in the past.
How can I invite an existing account holder to collaborate on my files?
