    Welcome to the Box Community!

    You might be running your Macbook device on File Provider Extension (FPE) mode. In File Provider Extension (FPE) mode, Box Drive is built on Apple's File Provider Extensions (FPE) to provide seamless access and support on M1 and Intel-based Mac devices. This mode is supported on macOS 11.5 and above.

    To visually determine whether Box Drive is operating in File Provide Extension mode, look in the Finder sidebar.  In the Finder sidebar, the Box folder in FPE mode appears only under Locations. 

    • The Box folder has a different mount location for FPE, compared to kernel-based Drive:

      • These are controlled by macOS, not Box Drive, and could change without notice

      • In FPE mode, you will find Box Drive folder in this path: ~/Library/CloudStorage/Box-Box

    The FPE is enabled. Is there a way or instructions I can follow to get the box folder back on the Desktop?

    Hi Omar,

    You should be able to resolve this by setting up a shortcut on their Desktop for Box Drive.
