What are the key changes in the new search experience?
- Updated quick filter streamlines options to the most commonly used filters.
- Quick search categorizes results by files and folders to help locate the right content faster.
- All filters can be accessed through the filter side panel and will allow for more advanced filtering by file type, file size, date, metadata, and more.
How will the new UI for filtering search results improve my workflow?
You can find files and folders faster, increasing the ease at which you work and collaborate. Our Search enhancements are based on user behavior and feedback and are designed to make finding the right files and folders faster. We made it easier to find and use the most commonly used filters and built out additional advanced filters to make it easier to narrow down your search for a specific file or folder. We also separated out files and folders in quick search results to make it visually easier to spot the content you’re searching for.
What are quick filters and how do they enhance searching capabilities?
Quick filters will allow users to filter by file type, date updated, and search by title only. These are commonly used filters, so we’ve designed them to be easier to find and use. If you need to access all filter options, you can either access the filter panel by clicking on "All Filters" from the quick filter options, or clicking on the filter button in the search bar.
What are all the available filters in this new search experience?
You can access all filters though the filters button in either the search bar or quick filter bar. All filters include:

Are there any limitations on the number of filters that can be applied at once?
No, you can use as many or as little filters as you need.
Can I customize the order in which search results are displayed?
Once you are looking at the full page of search results, you can sort the order of results by clicking on the “sort by” option. You cannot sort by any of the filters (such as sort by size or date modified. Current options for sort order include “relevance” (most relevant results to your search) and “update” (most recently updated files).
Does the new search experience support Boolean searches?
Yes, just like how search in Box has worked in the past, you can continue to use Boolean operators in your search. The operators are AND, OR, and NOT. Please note that Box does not support lower case (that is, "and", "or", and "not") or mixed case (that is, "And", "Or", and "Not") operators.
Is it possible to exclude certain file types from my search results?
Our search parameters are inclusive, so to exclude certain file types from the search results, go to your filters and check all the file types that you want to be included in your search. The unchecked file types will be excluded.
What languages are supported?
Box search supports the following languages: Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. Box does not support indexing of multiple languages within a single document.
Can I switch back and forth between the old and new experience?
No, once the search experience has been updated, users will all be using the new experience.
