You can invite a single unmanaged user to become a managed user or invite multiple unmanaged users to become managed users.
Important
When unmanaged users are converted to managed users, there is no interruption or change to their work, content, or Box experience. They do receive an automated message “inviting” them to join Box. This may be confusing, as they are already using Box accounts. We recommend you send a note to your unmanaged users in advance, alerting them to expect this invitation and suggesting they accept it.
To invite a single unmanaged user to become a managed user
- Go to Admin Console > Users & Groups.
- Select the External User tab.
- In the drop-down list, select Unmanaged Users.
- Hover over the name of the unmanaged user and select the More Options () button.
- Select Make Managed User.
- In the confirmation dialog box, select Confirm.
An invitation to join your Box organization is sent to the email address of the unmanaged user. Once the invitation is accepted, you will see the user in your managed user list.
To invite multiple unmanaged users to become managed users
- Go to Admin Console > Users & Groups.
- Select the External User tab.
- In the drop-down list, select Unmanaged Users.
- Hover over the name of each unmanaged user you want to convert to a managed user and select their check box.
- Select Make Managed User.
- In the confirmation dialog box, select Confirm.
Invitations to join your Box organization will be sent to the email addresses of the unmanaged users. Once an invitation is accepted, you will see that user in your managed user list.
