Box Content Preview enables you to preview documents by converting files from their original file type to a file type that can display in a browser. During this conversion, Box embeds supported fonts in the documents so you can view them on any device.
Note Box cannot support proprietary fonts that have restrictive licenses. The reasons for this vary. Some licenses do not allow embedding or commercial use. Other fonts are licensed on a per-user basis that can't be enforced on Box.
If Box doesn't support a font, Content Preview instead identifies and uses the next best font. Typically the next best font is similar enough to provide a good preview experience. However, in some cases the differences in the fonts create formatting issues.
The list of supported fonts varies, depending on file type:
Microsoft Office files
Non-Microsoft Office files
PDF files
For Microsoft Office files, Content Preview supports these fonts:
For non-Microsoft Office files, Content Preview supports these fonts:
For PDF files:
Content Preview displays any font embedded in the document itself. It also references the font if it is not embedded, which means you can view it only if that font is installed on your machine.
Content Preview does not support Adobe PDF Portfolios at this time.
