What is the Box AI Agent for Microsoft 365 Copilot?
The Box AI Agent is a Copilot agent developed by Box to help you access and work with Box content directly using Copilot. When available, this agent appears in your list of available agents. Powered by Box AI, the Box AI Agent for Microsoft 365 Copilot acts as a personal AI assistant, allowing you to easily search, analyze, and query Box content to gain actionable insights.
Which Box plans include this integration?
This integration is included with all Box plans.
Where can I access the Box AI Agent?
The Box AI Agent can be accessed from any Microsoft surface area that supports third-party agents in Microsoft 365.
How is this integration different from Box Copilot Connector?
Box also offers another integration with Copilot, via the Box Copilot Connector. This integration enables you to index Box data so it appears in Microsoft 365 experiences, including Microsoft Copilot. More information can be found here.
Unlike the Box Copilot Connector, the Box AI Agent does not rely on indexing but instead calls Box API to complete actions.
Does the Box AI Agent have indexing or other limitations like the Box Copilot Connector?
No, Since the agent does not require indexing of content in Microsoft 365, the user and file limits do not apply. Additionally, the agent is able to search across all files the user has access to in Box, not limited to Favorites or Recents.
Is it necessary to enable both integrations to access Box content from Copilot?
No, it is not necessary to enable both integrations. Each integration works independently, so you can choose which one to use. If both are enabled, you’ll have two separate options for accessing Box content through Copilot. The Box AI Agent serves as our primary Copilot integration.
Will I be able to limit it to only certain users/groups of users?
Yes, this can be set from the Microsoft Admin Center. For more information see this article.
Can I enable the Box AI Agent from the Microsoft Marketplace?
Yes, you can enable the Box AI Agent from the Microsoft Marketplace. If you click “Get it now” on the Box entry in the Microsoft Marketplace, you will be redirected to the Integrated apps tab in the Microsoft 365 admin center where you can add the agent. Please refer to this article for more information on installing the agent.
What are the steps end-users must take once it’s been enabled?
To authorize and start using the Box AI Agent in Copilot, see this article.
What prompts can I ask the agent?
You can ask the agent any questions or requests related to search, Q&A, extracting insights, or drafting content. To help you get started quickly, we have prepared a set of starter prompts that are available directly in the agent's chat:
- Summarize meeting takeaways: What were the main takeaways and action items from [customer meeting]?
- Search for documents: Find all files related to [project name].
- Find recent content: Find my recently edited BoxNote.
Please review this article for more information on supported tools.
Can admins control tool access?
Yes. Because this integration uses the Box MCP server, admins can control which MCP tools users can access through the Box Admin Console, the same controls that apply to other Box MCP clients. Please refer to our MCP Server Admin Controls Documentation for more information.
What should end-users do if the agent returns an unsatisfactory response?
If you receive a response from the agent that does not meet your expectations, you can provide feedback by clicking the thumbs up or thumbs down icon on the response. When leaving feedback, please include #boxforcopilot along with a brief summary of your comments, whether positive or negative. Microsoft uses this feedback to try and improve the experience.
What are the licensing requirements for the Box AI Agent in Copilot?
To use the Box AI Agent in Copilot, you must have Copilot enabled. Once enabled, you can access the Box AI Agent regardless of your Copilot tier; see Copilot plans here for more information. There are no additional costs on the Box side.
Are there limits to the number of responses returned by the agent?
Visit Microsoft’s support article for more information on these limits.
