We’ve released a new version of Box for Salesforce, now available for download at the Salesforce AppExchange. This release includes a major upgrade to Box Doc Gen’s in Salesforce document generation capabilities, a new admin Box troubleshooting experience, and a number of improvements and bug fixes across the package.
What's New
Box Doc Gen - Nested tables, Data Sources, Doc Gen Template Tagger
Box Doc Gen for Salesforce can now go far beyond a single record when generating documents.
Nested Tables
Templates can now include nested, repeating tables up to five levels deep, in both parent and child directions. Quotes can include their line items, contracts can include related contacts and signatories, and templates are no longer limited to the fields on a single starting record.
Example: Root: Account.
Chain: Account > ChildAccounts > Contacts > Cases > CaseComments
Data Sources
Admins can configure additional data sources on a Doc Gen template to bring in data beyond the standard record payload, including SOQL queries, Apex, Flows, and images stored in Box. Each data source can be previewed before a document is generated, so admins can confirm the data is correct ahead of time.
DocGen Template Tagger
A new Doc Gen Template Tagger on each template’s Tags tab lets admins browse the template’s fields, related records, and data sources, and generate ready-to-paste Box Doc Gen tags for fields, nested tables, conditions, and calculations. It also flags tags in the template that reference fields or relationships that don’t exist.

Bug fixes & Improvements
- Bookmarkable Box Settings pages: Each Box Settings page now has its own URL, so admins can bookmark a specific settings page or share a direct link with their team.
- Fixed an issue where a Box Sign template’s email notification setting was not carried over to Salesforce when the template was imported.
- Fixed an issue where Box Sign status updates did not automatically sync to Salesforce for sign requests created from new Sign templates.
- Fixed an issue where a Doc Gen file name template containing a merge field that resolved to an empty value (for example, a missing parent account name) could produce an invalid file name, causing document generation to fail.
- Fixed an issue where adding a skip-row-if condition directly to a child table’s field could cause that field to be excluded from the Doc Gen query, resulting in missing data in the generated document.
- Improved error messaging across the package.
