Permission level to add collaborators

    Hi there,

    Welcome to the Box Community!

A collaborator must have at least an "Editor" access to be able to invite other people to collaborate in a folder.

Check out article on Understanding Collaborator Permission Levels for details.

If the user has Editor access but he is still unable to invite others, the "Folder settings" to allow "Only folder owners and co-owners can send collaborator invites" could be enabled. If this is the case they would have to reach out to the folder owner to disable that setting or request to the owner to invite people they wish to be added in that particular folder. See Understanding Box Folder Settings for details.

Thanks for your question and participation in the Community!

    Best,

Hi France, thanks so much for replying! I see the setting on the folder, however it's greyed out, same as the root folder which makes me think this is a global org setting. In this case making the user a co owner of the folder might be the best thing for them. Otherwise, they might have to change an org setting which would impact so much more.

    Hi Admin,

    Thanks for following up!

Yes, there is indeed a global settings for this restriction and may have been enabled for your organization.

See Content and sharing settings for your enterprise for details.

    • Restrict invites: Enables you to set who can invite collaborators. If this option is enabled then only folder Owners and Co-owners and Admins (including Co-admins and Group Admins) are able to invite collaborators to a given folder.

If your organization is not keen to make any changes with your current Enterprise settings, then yes, it would be best to promote the user to a "Co-owner".

    Best,
