Hi James,
Welcome to the Box Community!
When you have "unsynced" folders in Box.com, the folder should disappear on its own from your laptop computer.
Unsyncing folders just as syncing them may take time depending on your internet speed, amount of contents to unsync, and your computer's performance so you'd want to give Box Sync time to reflect the changes you made.
If you have given it enough time, and yet the folder you unsynced continue to show on your laptop, you may reach out to our Support team for further troubleshooting tips by clicking on the “Contact Support” link just above this page.

Hi James,
In addition to France's recommendations, would you be interested in using Box Drive which allows you to access your content through the desktop but doesn't take up the local memory and storage?
Check out more about Box Drive if it fits your use case: https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/360044196553-About-Box-Drive
