Hi Effie,
Welcome to the Box Community, I'm happy to help!
Please make sure to follow the steps in this article on setting up 2 FA with SMS: https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043697154-Multi-Factor-Authentication-Set-Up-for-Your-Account
Please make sure to choose the correct country you are in and enter your complete phone number (no spaces or special character) on the required field and click 'Continue', and a confirmation code will be sent to the phone number you entered. Enter the code you received as a text message then click Submit.
Thanks for reaching out and let us know how else we can help!
Best,

Hello France,
"NO SPACES OR SPECIAL CHARACTER" should really be highlighted, bigtime. I have never been asked to enter my phone number that way and if the system I was entering the phone number into wanted it that way, it simply eliminated the dashes. A WHOLE lot of frustration for something that should had been programed into the system and/or at least highlighted so the end user could know.
Still, I am appreciative to you, France, for your help. I was so defeated spending so much time without any success. Thank you France for responding to this problem.
I have been successful in getting authenticated through the elimination of normal phone number formatting.
I downloaded the BOX app on my desktop at one point, as I was trying to troubleshoot this issue as much as my limited knowledge allowed me to. Do I NEE that app on my computer? I don't want it unless I HAVE to have it.
Please let me know and thank you again,
Effie

Hi Effie,
I'm glad you've successfully setup 2FA this time. I appreciate your feedback and will definitely forward it to our documentations team.
The Box desktop app is just another means to access your Box Files so you don't have to go open a browser and login to Box.com every time you need to access your stored files in Box. It's not really necessary but it's recommended.
Let us know if you have other questions, we'd love to help you out!
Regards,
