How to successfully download files from box?
Hi there,
I'm trying to download multiple files from box, during which I kept getting "Unknown server error, please try again".
I was guessing this is because the total file size is too big.
So I tried to download the files individually by click on each single file folder or file, click download. As you can imagine this would create a large number of download requests going on in parallel.
But, it seems that box can handle only a certain number of parallel downloading requests, I think it's less than ten. Any new downloading requests will be put on hold until one of the on going downloading is finished. Therefore I'll have to wait for the on-going downloading to finish and then select new files and click download.
In this case, I can't download everything in one go because of the "unknown server error", I can't download each single files in one go because of the parallel download restrain.
Is there a way, to download files from box, regardless the total amount of files or the file size, with guaranteed success, without having to use the box drive?
box drive by default creates "cache" of all files on box server which takes up precious hard drive spaces on my computer. Since this cannot be avoided, it's not an option.

Have you checked out this article on Common issues with Box Downloads? We cannot disregard the factors that you mentioned such as the size of the folder and files you are downloading as these affects your ability to perform certain actions.
A few important reminders when downloading files in Box:
- Bulk download is dependent on the max file size upload limit for the Account type in total. See: Understand the Max File Size You Can Upload to Box.
- Box measures bandwidth usage based on downloads from open access shared links. All downloads from any public shared link count towards the bandwidth limit. Depending on the size of the files being shared and the frequency of downloads, you can reach this limit quite quickly based on the file format (GIF, FLV, MP3, and so forth).
