The Box Governance team is excited to announce that Box Admins now have the ability to tie retention policies to business events and start the retention clock ticking based off of an event or trigger date.
A common use case is HR records: when an employee is with the company, their payroll records and other information need to be protected from accidental deletion. When the employee leaves, the information needs to be retained for 3 years. With event-based retention, this can be accomplished with a single retention policy. If the employee returns a year down the road (e.g., holiday hires), HR can remove the departure date and turn the content back to "indefinite" retention.
Event-based retention can also be used to manage projects - e.g., retain content related to a project for 1 year after project completion date. One year after project completion, all related content will be deleted.
Retaining an original create date from a file share or ECM migration will also allow retention time frame to be driven from the original creation date.
