We will be releasing a new version of Box Drive (v2.47), on Windows and Mac, that includes feature enhancements and bug fixes.
New Box Drive on Windows with ARM support
A new version of Box Drive for Windows now uses the native Windows API as its underlying file system architecture.
Please note: The new version will be available by default for Free Users and Enterprise customers using ARM-based devices. Other Enterprise customers can join through an opt-in process. If you would like to opt in your organization, please follow these instructions.
The legacy Box Drive will reach end-of-life (EOL) in the near future.
The full description is available on the support page. Below is a quick list of what’s new and improved in the latest version of Box Drive:
- ARM devices support
- Admins can configure known folder redirection for end users to Box Drive. This setup ensures folders like Documents and Downloads are automatically synchronized with Box, helping users keep their important files backed up and accessible across devices without manual effort. More details at this link.
- The files are now stored in the Box Drive folders. This means that the disk space used will come from the Custom Mount Location instead of the user profile directory, allowing you to free up space on your system disk.
- Individual files can be marked for offline access in addition to folders
- New icons, multiple status icons in the Explorer and fixed icons overlay issues
- Users can identify which files are available locally on disk and have the capability to free up space by making them online-only
- Box Drive Folders are still accessible even if Box Drive is not running
- Improved read and write performance for files that are already cached on disk
- Complete Box Drive application compatibility with Windows applications from Microsoft store.
New Box Drive OS requirements:
- Windows 10: Version 10.0.19045 or later
- Windows 11
- Windows Server: Version 2022 or later
