Effective October 20, 2025, Box is expanding access to Box AI APIs and AI Units across more plan tiers, making it easier for every organization to extend Box AI into their own workflows and applications.
What’s Changing
- AI API Access Expanded: Business, Business Plus, and Enterprise plan customers now have access to Box AI Foundation Agents via API, including Q&A, Text Generation, and Extract APIs.
- Model Flexibility: All eligible tiers can choose from state-of-the-art-models to power their AI use cases.
- AI Units Availability: AI Units are now available for all customers to purchase as one-time or recurring SKUs. Enterprise+ and Enterprise Advanced plans continue to include 2,000 and 20,000 AI Units, respectively.
- No UI Changes: All existing Box AI features in the UI (e.g., Documents, Notes, Hubs, Slack) remain unchanged.
Availability
These updates take effect beginning October 20, 2025 for all new and existing customers on Business, Business Plus, and Enterprise plans.
Impact to Customers
- Developers in eligible tiers can now integrate Box AI capabilities directly via AI API.
- Admins and users will see no immediate UI changes.
- Business and Business Plus customers can begin purchasing AI Units to power AI API usage.
- Enterprise customers receive 1,000 AI Units included with their plan and can always purchase additional AI Units if needed.
What’s Not Changing
- Enterprise Plus continues to include multi-doc/multi-image querying, Box AI in Slack and Hubs.
- Enterprise Advanced continues to include AI Studio, AI Studio API, and advanced orchestration capabilities.
